Striking hand-painted ceramic tile titled “Kizhi Churches,” produced in 1978 at Art Workshop No. 1, Orëkhovo-Zuyevo, under the Art Fund of the RSFSR (Moscow Department). This officially licensed Soviet art cooperative specialized in limited-run enamel panels depicting national heritage landmarks.

Rendered in sweeping cobalt blues and verdant greens, the tile portrays the tiered wooden domes of the 18th-century Church of the Transfiguration on Kizhi Island, Karelia—a UNESCO World Heritage site celebrated as a masterpiece of Russian carpentry.

Original brass frame and intact 1978 production label on reverse. Approx. 6″ square. Excellent vintage condition; bright glaze, no chips or cracks. A rare, state-issued example of Soviet folk-modernist design uniting architecture, history, and the decorative arts.
