Shaheen's designs were a form of "fusion fashion" that celebrated the multiethnic nature of Hawaii, drawing inspiration from Chinese, Japanese, Polynesian, and other cultures. His vintage clothing and fabrics, which are highly collectible, have been the subject of museum exhibits and even featured on U.S. postage stamps. The company closed in 1988 when Alfred Shaheen retired.
